Dear Alabama Eagle,

I am asking for your help for one of our own, Eagle Stephanie Bell who has served with real distinction on the Alabama State Board of Education. I had the pleasure of seeing her receive the Olive Spann Eagle of the Year Award when I was in Birmingham to speak at your Leadership Conference April 16^th. I know you are proud of her outstanding record since 1995 on that Board. And her lovely daughter, Samford student Sarah, is following in her footsteps as she is attending her second Eagle Forum Collegians meeting this year in Washington.

However, now Stephanie has three challengers in the June first Republican Primary -probably because she stood so strongly against the huge tax increase called Amendment One and against the schools being used to propagandize for it. One of her well funded opponents who is part of the education establishment actively used the schools to push that amendment! Once again, Stephanie has been proven right since the Education Trust Fund now has adequate money without th'at 20+% tax increase!

Actually, every time Eagle Forum of Alabama has addressed an issue, Stephanie could be counted upon to lead the charge with her vote and her voice. For example, she spoke and voted for the Alabama Reading Initiative and enforcement of the Abstinence Act. She has supported us on improvements to the courses of study and rejection of bad textbooks as well as in opposition to Channel 1.

Now that we have fellow Eagle Betty Peters on the Board, Stephanie's influence is greatly enhanced. We simply MUST not lose her on the Alabama Board of Education. I urge you to use your influence, your pocketbook and your vote, if you are in her district, to make sure that she is re-elected for another four year term!!!
